Estate cleanouts in Penticton and the South Okanagan

You may have lost someone, or a parent may have gone into care, and now there’s a house to deal with. We go at your pace, and nothing leaves until you’ve said it can.

A lived-in living room with family pictures on the wall, a lamp, and an armchair with a crocheted blanket

Go through the house first

Family should go through before we come and keep what matters, including the small things that wouldn’t mean anything to anyone else.

If you’re unsure about something, put it in one room and shut the door, and we’ll leave that room alone.

People are often looking for one particular thing, like a ring or a folder of papers. Tell us and we’ll watch for it as we work. However the house looks, nobody on our crew will comment on it.

Where your family’s things go

Family keeps what matters, including the small things.

Furniture, dishes and household goods that are still good go to our thrift store, where someone else gets the use of them, and a share of each sale goes to the Salvation Army Food Bank in Penticton.

What can be recycled is recycled.

Only what’s left goes to the landfill.

    • A framed portrait
    • A ring in its box
    • A folder of papers
    Keep
    • A teacup and saucer
    • A table lamp
    • A wooden chair
    Thrift
    • A stack of newspapers
    • Glass jars
    • Flattened cardboard
    Recycle

A piece meant for a relative can be delivered. If the household has a lot of good things, ask before you book anything, because our thrift store buys estates.

When a parent is moving into care

Some cleanouts begin with a move. We can take your mother’s or father’s furniture to the new suite, set it up with them, and clear the rest of the house afterward, so you’re dealing with one company and one phone number.

How we move seniors

Suitcases, framed pictures, a lamp and boxes from a lifetime in one house

What we have to leave behind

We can’t take asbestos, lead paint, chemicals or other hazardous materials, and most garages have a few old cans of something. Return-It at 310 Dawson Ave takes household paint and aerosols. Residents of the regional district’s service area can leave household hazardous waste at Campbell Mountain Landfill at no charge. If we find any, we’ll tell you where it can go.

  1. Call when you’re ready

Jeremy answers the phone. Tell him what you know, even if that isn’t much yet, and any date you’re working toward.

  2. Show us the house

Walk through it with us, or send photos if you’re out of town. You’ll have a price before we start, based on how much of the truck it fills.

  3. We clear it

Room by room, leaving what you’ve set aside. You’ll hear from us when the last load has gone.

The same kind of room, empty now: bare floor, a single wooden chair and the light from the window
Helped me out after my mother in-law passed. I was on a very to tight schedule. Was able to fit us in on a busy weekend. Awesome Thank you.

Common questions

How soon can you clear a house?

That depends on the schedule, but we work seven days a week and will do what we can to meet a sale date or the end of a lease. Tell us the date when you call.

Can I arrange an estate cleanout from out of town?

Yes. You can send photos, arrange things by phone and pay by e-transfer or card, so most of it can be done from away. Someone will need to let us in.

Do you buy the contents of an estate?

Yes. The Penticton Online Thrift Store, run by Junk In The Trunk, buys estates. If the household has a lot of good furniture and goods, call before you book a cleanout.

What does an estate cleanout cost?

It’s priced by how much of the truck the household fills, and heavy materials are priced by weight. You get the price before we start, and there’s no travel fee within Penticton.
