Hot tub removal in Penticton and the South Okanagan

A drained six-person tub still weighs about what a grand piano does, and it has to get past your side gate. Send us a photo of the tub and the way out, and we’ll tell you how we’d do it and what it costs.

A grand piano on one side.

A drained six-person tub on the other. About the same.

Weight is the other thing. Years of slow leaks can leave water in the foam, and then the tub comes out far heavier than it should.

Will it get past your side gate?

How a hot tub leaves a yard

Access decides most of it. A tub on a pad beside the driveway is a short job. One on a deck, down a slope or behind a narrow gate takes longer, and if it won’t fit through in one piece it gets cut up where it sits.

The cover, the steps and the cabinet all go with it, and if you want the concrete pad gone as well, that’s priced by weight.

Try giving it away first

If yours still heats, list it on Marketplace as free to whoever hauls it away. That costs you nothing, and sometimes it works.

The curb is out. Penticton’s large item pickup lists hot tubs and lids as not accepted. Campbell Mountain Landfill’s page doesn’t mention hot tubs, so if you’re hauling one yourself, call the regional district’s Solid Waste Hotline at 250-490-4129 before you load it.

How a tub gets priced

It’s priced like the rest of our junk work, by how much of the truck it fills, and you’ll have the number before anything moves. There’s no travel fee in Penticton and usually none for Naramata, Summerland, Kaleden or OK Falls. Farther out, any fee is quoted up front.

  1. An old hot tub with its cover on, on a weathered deck above the lake

    Send photos

Show us the tub, the way out, and anything in the way, like gates, stairs or a low deck rail.

  2. A cedar hot tub with its cover on

Drain it and cut the power

Drain the tub the day before, which can take hours through a garden hose. Turn off the breaker, and if it’s hardwired, have an electrician disconnect it. That part isn’t ours.

  3. The same deck with the hot tub gone, only a faint square left on the boards

    We take it out

We get it out and load every piece, down to the bits of foam. You’re left with a bare pad.

We had Jeremy remove a couple pianos and other large pieces from our building. Fantastic rates and excellent communication. Definitely recommend

Common questions

Do I need to drain my hot tub before you remove it?

Yes. A full six-person tub holds more than a tonne of water, so drain it the day before we come. If you can’t, tell us when we quote.

Who disconnects the power to a hot tub?

You do, or your electrician. Turn off the breaker and, if the tub is hardwired, have an electrician disconnect it before Junk In The Trunk arrives.

Can a hot tub go out for the City of Penticton large item pickup?

No. The City lists hot tubs and lids as not accepted in its large item collection, which also has a limit of 90 kg (200 lb) per item.

How much does hot tub removal cost?

We price each tub by how much of the truck it fills and quote it from photos before we start. Removing a concrete pad as well is priced by weight.

Send us a photo of the way out.

Jeremy usually gets back to you within the hour.
